BURY Hockey Club's Ladies first team secured an excellent 5-2 victory against Heaton on Saturday.

Charlotte Bates and Sophie Foreman both got two goals each and Emma Bailey scored a spectacular solo effort – driving into the D and smashing the ball into the bottom left corner.

The ladies' seconds also enjoyed success on Sunday with a 7-0 triumph against Urmston.

Goals from Helen Beard, Emma and Rachel Bailey, Joy Kenedy, Chloe Edgington and two for Lisa Davies saw the side continue their good run of form in the league.

The men's firsts went down 3-2 to league leaders Southport on Saturday.

After conceding twice in 10 minutes from expertly-dispatched penalty corners, Matthew Lee pulled one back for Bury just before half time with an excellent counter-attacking goal.

Southport scored against the run of play in the second half and despite a late second from captain James Larmett, Bury were edged out.

The men's seconds had a creditable 1-1 draw with University of Salford firsts.

The students were playing at a much higher standard and went 1-0 up late in the second half.

But Matt Cooke secured the draw with the final touch of the game, tipping in a penalty corner.
