YWCA Bury Netball Club's National Premier team beat Hertford Hornets 46-40 on their home court.

Led by captains Jenny Cross and birthday girl Elia McCormick, Bury started the 60-minute match well, leading by 14 goals at half time.

The third quarter, however, saw a role reversal and Bury scored a mere six goals, allowing Hornets to creep back into the game with only a five-goal deficit as the last quarter began.

Bury restored their rhythm and managed to win by six points, with player-of-the-match once again cool-headed goal attack, Lois Pearson.

The second game of the weekend saw the North West Premier team up against seasiders Blackpool. Blackpool have always been strong contenders in the regional league and their tenacity and speed of play from the first whistle saw Bury chasing the game for most of the first quarter.

The defensive trio of Ella Grocott, Chloe Addis and Josephine Fraser-Thompson was pushed with an equally impressive attacking Blackpool line-up.

The second quarter saw an injection of pace from Emma Raynor, who has recently been selected for the Under-17 England Academy squad, and a switch up in the shooting circle with normally defensive player Jasmine Cross, taking up the goal shooter bib.

This proved to be Bury’s best quarter of the game but was not enough to see them over the line at the 60-minute whistle as they lost by six points.

Ellie Heyes – another England U17 squad member – was awarded player-of-the-match for showing true grit and resilience.

This weekend sees a busy Sunday for the teams with five games across the senior and junior sections.
