TWO young boxers from Bury ABC won gold medals at the Odivelas Box Cup in Portugal.

Competing in a tournament in Lisbon where 360 boxers from more than 20 countries were aiming for medals, sixteen-year-olds Ali-Akbar Javid and Abdul Khan came away with the top prize at their respective weights.

Javid, competing in the 60-64kg section, beat Portugal boxer Alex Dacruse by a unanimous points decision after three rounds in his quarter-final.

In the last four, he saw off Ireland's Egor Kwas with a first-round stoppage and then he won unanimously on points in the final against Switzerland's Flavio Meta.

Khan, fighting at 50-52kg, stopped England's Curties Rennie in the second round to win his quarter-final.

In the semi-final, he also stopped Palestine's Ismail Mali in round two.

He won gold after the towel was thrown in after the first round in the final by the corner of Portugal's David D'liarte.
