RADCLIFFE AC’s Sharon Peterkin joined the 'ultra club' when she conquered a challenging trail race in Nottinghamshire.

She said she was “dead proud” after completing her first ultra race, the Waterway 30.

Despite its name, the circular trail route is actually around 32 miles and takes in the picturesque tow paths of the Chesterfield Canal and River Trent.

Peterkin finished in 8hrs 33mins and said: “It was hard in bits as running on grass was soul destroying.”

Tracy Wroe and Bev Quinton battled 56mph winds when they travelled to the coast on Sunday for the St Annes 10-Mile race.

Wroe finished in 1:52:47, despite a bad fall at Worsley Woods parkrun the previous day, and Quinton ran 1:57:55.

There were also strong winds to contend with for a trio of Radcliffe runners at the Hunters 10k near Preston.

Jenny Yates was first V50 and first home for the club in 44:35. She was followed by Peter Hunter, in 47:37, and Caroline Malone, in 55:51

Meanwhile, husband and wife Peter and Kirsten Cook had strong performances in the wind at the Run Heaton 10k which attracted 374 runners.

Peter finished first V60 and 69th overall in 51:11, while Kirsten was third V55 in 55:35.

In the Run Heaton Half Marathon on the same day, Mark Garner ran 1:49:00.

Robert Short led the field at Bolton parkrun, finishing first in 18:20.

It was his first local parkrun representing Radcliffe after switching clubs from Burnden Road Runners.

He was joined by new team-mates Ken Smith (23:50), Mark Williams (25:18), Mark Murphy (31:23), junior Grace Williams (31:28 – her 60th parkrun) and Andy Wheeler (32:21).

Junior Olivia Whittaker continued her impressive series of personal-best times at Heaton parkrun by bagging her first sub-27 minute 5k. She ran 26:44 to finish first JW10 and 51st lady.

Amanda Callan was seventh lady in 23:05, followed closely by Sheila Jones in 23:09.

Also running were Mark Wolfenden (24:09), Peter Hunter (26:39), Sarah Oxley (39:22) and Lucy Dewhurst (39:23).

At Worsley Woods parkrun, Craig Ward ran 26:32 and Tracy Wroe finished in 31:07.
