STAND Golf Club were great hosts for the latest Manchester and District Golf Alliance fixture which attracted a full and talented field and produced a thrilling finale with some close finishes.

The competition was sponsored by Derek Harvey of Marriott Worsley Park and representing the club was Manchester Alliance legend Dave Screeton, the Worsley Park pro.

He was delighted to present another Alliance star and legend Phil Archer (Poulton Park) with two of the main prizes.

Archer posted a fine score of 43 points to lead in the individual pro section but he was chased all the way by Andy Palmer (Chorley) and Stand pro, Mark Hancock, who were only a point off Archer.

It was even closer in the pro-am section with Archer and his Leigh partner, Mark Pasquil, winning a card play-off on 47 points from Mark Hancock and Stand skipper Dave Eckersley, and Marple duo Gary Brown and Richard Blackwell.

History was made in the am-am section as Phil Mayer and Anthony Wilson became the first pair from Accrington to win a top Alliance prize as they posted 45 points and won a card play-off against Phil Reeve and Danny Deelly (Ellesmere) with Stand pair, Ewan Pearson and Tom Farley, just a point off the pace.
