BURY AC had two athletes representing Greater Manchester in the Inter-Counties Championships at Prestwold Hall in Loughborough on Saturday and both performed admirably.

Representing the senior men, Ben Coop ran strongly to take 154th place, covering the 10k course in 37mins 28secs, while in her first year of competitive athletics, Hannah Price ran well to take 216th place in the high-quality field in a time of 48:30.

Sheffield was the venue for the under-15s/u17s Combined Events National Championships last weekend and in the u17 women’s pentathlon, Daisy Worthington took 12th overall with a total of 3,112 points.

Her individual events performances were: 60m hurdles 9.60, 800m 2:42.82, high jump 1.50m, long jump 5.17 and shot put 10.39.

Ella Hall took 48th place with a new lifetime-best point score of 1,906. Her individual performances for the same events were 11.43, 3:07.58, 1.17, 4.22 and 9.50.

The following day in the u15 boys' pentathlon there were personal-best performances from Jay Cook and Nathan Witkowski.

Cook took seventh place overall, and second in the North West, with a new best score of 2,357. His individual performances were: 60m hurdles 9.46, 800m 2:32.82, high jump 1.62, long jump 5.13 and shot put 10.78.

Witkowski was hot on his heels, finishing ninth overall, and third in the North West, with 2,194 to set his new PB. His individual performances were 9.57, 2:25.49, 1.47, 5.04 and 9.13.

In the u15 girls' competition, the Bury trio of Abigail Howard, Rosella Togo and Scarlet Hamilton also set new best performances of 2,593, 2,215 and 2,080, taking 16th, 35th and 38th places respectively.

Howard’s performances over the five events were 9.37, 2:49.25, 1.32, 4.58 and 8.18. Togo’s results were 9.94, 2:58.62, 1.26, 4.01 and 8.57, while Hamilton produced 10.91, 2:35.62, 1.26, 3.87 and 5.78 performances.

The windy conditions had a massive impact on finishing times for Sunday’s Trafford 10k.

Gary Crowshaw continued his improvement to take 128th in the men’s field, taking nearly three minutes off his previous best with a time of 35:36.

Katrina Conroy, in her debut over the distance, took 24th place in the women’s race with a time of 43:43.

Four club members faced the elements in the Irwell Valley 20-mile trail run.

Byron Edwards, back from Tokyo, used the event as a leg stretch but still finished ninth (2:16:33).

Katie Geelan took second place in the V45 age category with 2:44:14 at her first attempt at the distance. Matt Grice and Irfan Qureshi were the other Bury finishers in 2:47:59 and 3:03:48 respectively.

Six Bury athletes competed in the last of the Sale Indoor meetings at SportCity.

Enya Hartley ran a nippy 8.78 personal best in her 60m heat, while David Vaughan and Reilly Carson ran 40.40 and 49.32, respectively, in their 300m races, both new bests.

The pair also recorded new bests in their 600m races of 1:35 and 1:49, respectively.

Charlotte Speakman-Farnworth set a season’s best of 1:45 in her 600m race and Grace Gibson won her heat in a new best of 1:52.

Harriet Vaughan competed in the long jump, setting a new personal best with her furthest effort of 5.17.
