CAPTAIN Neil Danns and manager Ryan Lowe have urged Bury fans to stick with the team after a turbulent week at Gigg Lane.

The Shakers’ 14-game unbeaten league run came to an end at home to Swindon on Saturday.

Then hours before Tuesday’s game with Cambridge it emerged that players and staff were not paid last

Friday.

And Bury went on to suffer their biggest league defeat of the season, leaving them third – just two points above Mansfield – before Saturday’s trip to play-off hopefuls Carlisle.

“At the beginning of the season, if you’d have put us in this position with six games to go I think everyone would’ve been happy,” said Danns.

“We’ve had a blip, like every other team has in the league, and now it’s important that we get back to winning ways.

“We’ve been honest with ourselves. There were some words exchanged in the dressing room.

“It’s still in our hands, and if we can keep that positivity then we’ve got a great group of lads that will look themselves in the mirror after the last two games – including myself – and try to put it right.

“We just need to relax and get back to doing what we do – and that’s everyone,” added the veteran midfielder.

“You could feel a bit of tension with the fans, who have been unbelievable this season. I think they’re feeling nerves at the same time as us but it’s vital we stick together and hopefully that will see us across the finish line.”

Some fans booed the players on Tuesday but Lowe also called for unity heading into the run-in.

“Sometimes I’m baffled and I do turn round and give them a snarl,” he said.

“The way the team has played this season and brought the good times back, we don’t become a bad team overnight.

“Just hold fire a bit, don’t boo them. We’re sitting in a fantastic position to kick on so please get behind them.

“The lads need them. They’re a bit down, and rightly so, they’ve had a tough week.

“It’s important now we get the spark and belief back into them, and look forward to another tough encounter on Saturday.

“We’ve got a mini-league now of six games and I’ve every faith in my players and staff that we’ll put it right.”
