RADCLIFFE AC junior Samuel Howard beat around 200 runners to finish on the podium at Bury’s primary school cross-country competition.

He was presented with a trophy and a certificate after finishing second in the four-race championship for Year 5 and 6 pupils.

The 11-year-old was one of several Radcliffe runners who represented their schools in the event organised by Bury Junior Schools' Sports Association.

He notched two second places and a third to secure second place at the end of the individual boys’ races. The final event was a relay.

There was another trophy for the club when senior Donna Cartwright finished second woman at Saturday’s Warrington RC Five Mile Race.

The V40 clocked 35mins 48secs on the multi-terrain course which included plenty of hills, trails and even some cross country.

Sarah Oxley was pleased with her time of 1:00:27 at the Mother’s Day 10k in Lancaster on Saturday. She received a medal with a mum superhero on it.

A head torch was essential for Andy Haines at the midweek Pendle Hill Dark Dash Fell Race in Lancashire.

The night 5.7-mile race started from Barley at 7pm and had 1,148 feet of climbing. Haines knocked more than five minutes off his time from last year, finishing 29th out of 121 runners in 54:31.

Neal Emmerson notched up a course personal best of 16:49 when he finished first at the 5k Worsley Wood parkrun while Sheila Jones was first vet 60 and sixth woman overall in 24:10 at Centre Vale parkrun in Todmorden.

Parkrun tourist Vince Ashton travelled to Portobello near Edinburgh to clock up his 69th location. He was pleased with his time of 27:21 on the flat three-lap course.

Closer to home, there were several junior and seniors in action at Heaton parkrun.

Seniors Paul Barrington ran 24:23, while Peter Hunter clocked 24:41 and Susanne Andrew finished in 28:18.

Among the juniors, Noah Barrington achieved a new PB of 25:23, while Harry Andrew and Ben Darbyshire ran 26:24.

Olivia Whittaker achieved yet another PB, finishing first in her age category in 26:31.

A good turnout at Bolton parkrun saw Rob Lister run 22:04.

Radcliffe AC’s popular 10k multi-terrain race takes place on April 14.
