Tom Aldred has officially left Bury and linked up with Liverpool legend Robbie Fowler at Brisbane Roar.

The defender, who has spent the last 18 months on loan with Scottish side Motherwell, was at the end of his Shakers contract.

The 28-year-old was seen as a key signing when he arrived in the summer of 2017 from Blackpool but after manager Lee Clark was sacked, Chris Lucketti allowed him to move north of the border in January 2018.

His successor Ryan Lowe did likewise for the 2018/19 season.

Now the former Accrington man will head to the A League and is looking forward to testing himself abroad.

“I’m buzzing about getting started at Brisbane Roar, it’s a massive opportunity for me,” Aldred said.

“I’ve always kept an eye on overseas leagues and it’s been an ambition of mine to play abroad one day.

“I met with Robbie and he put in light what he is trying to do and it was something that really attracted me.

“It’s a very competitive league that has featured some quality players and it's one that I’m really looking forward to testing myself in.”

In all, Aldred made just 23 appearances for Bury in all competitions with his solitary goal coming in a 2-1 defeat at Oldham back in October 2017.

Elsewhere former Shakers striker James Vaughan has dropped down to League Two, leaving Wigan to join Bradford.
