A SMALL squad representing Bury at the YDL Upper League meeting made the best of the home advantage to take third place out of the seven teams to consolidate third place in the league with one fixture remaining.

In the under-20 men’s category, Nathan Shepard and Brandon Wilson were the only competitors with Shepard taking fourth in A 100m and 200m and second in the 400m hurdles.

Wilson took second in the B 100m before combining with Shepard and u17s' Rocksan Minkeng and Rashaun Currie to take second in the 4x100 relay.

Hattie Vaughan and Heledd Rimmer were the only u20 women competing.

Vaughan took third in the 100m, won the long jump and shot and was second in the discus.

Rimmer had an equally busy afternoon, placing third in the 1500m and then winning the 3,000m and javelin.

She then teamed up with Charlotte Speakman-Farnworth, Erin Kenyon and Charlie Ireland to take second in the 4x400m relay.

For the u17 men, Currie ran well to take third in the 100m (12.0secs) and fourth in the 200m (24.1), while David Vaughan took third in the A 400 (54.8), third in the long jump and won the triple jump (11.93).

Minkeng won the B 400m, while Oliver Donnelly won the 1500m and high jump and Jacob Allen took third in the 800m and then joined Minkeng, Donnelly and Vaughan to take third in the 4x400m.

In the u17 women’s events, Speakman-Farnworth won the 800m, took second in the 300m hurdles and won the triple jump (9.70).

Ireland was seventh in the 200m, fourth in the 80m hurdles and second in the discus, while Erin Kenyon was also fourth in the B 200m, third in the 300m and won the B javelin and Ella Hall took second in the shot, discus and javelin competitions.

Josh Birmingham and Byron Edwards had strong runs in the top quality Sale Sizzler 5k, with Birmingham 14th in a new personal best of 16:09 and Edwards 26th in 16:38.

It was a one-two for Patrick Babb and Jon Evans in the Radcliffe 5k with the former's winning time of 17:23 good enough to hold off Evans by just two seconds.

Last Wednesday saw nine members competing in the Rochdale 10k, as part of the senior’s Grand Prix race series.

Edwards took an excellent third place in a season’s best of 34:56.

Babb was fifth in a new best time of 35:25 and Paul Johnson was 19th, equalling his PB with 37:43.

Sarah Thomas took second women’s place in 42:19 and Lizzi Cheshire was fifth in 47:36.
