RADCLIFFE AC's Neal Emmerson represented England Masters and finished a superb 26th at the Maidenhead Half Marathon.

He ran 1hr 14mins 30secs at the event where the country’s top age-group runners took on those from the Celtic nations.

Emmerson was seventh Vet-35 in the international competition, narrowly missing out on a personal best.

A total of 147 masters took part in the event, which was incorporated into the half marathon that attracted a field of more than 1,500.

Emmerson said: “It was nice to wear a version of an England vest and have lots of team-mates to push you on.

“I wasn't quite at my best, just five seconds off my personal best, but I've run 105 miles this week.

“The race itself was great, well-organised and supported with a flat course.

"I couldn't have asked for much more – apart from cooler weather.”

Chris Whittaker secured a personal best of 17:19, despite carrying an injury, when he joined a top-class field at the Mid Cheshire Summer 5k.

Three Radcliffe runners finished the Ice Lolly 5k series in Bolton in style by securing course personal bests.

Peter Cook took fifth place in the series after finishing first Vet-60 in 24:03 in the fourth and final race, while wife Kirsten was first Vet-55 in 28:31, finishing eighth-placed woman in the series, and Christine Berry ran 43:57.

Two teams enjoyed a gallop around Kersal Wetlands when they took part the Racecourse Relays in Salford.

Teams of four took part with each runner completing a 10.5 furlong loop – approximately 1.3 miles – of what was once Manchester Racecourse and is now a wildlife reserve.

The last horse race there in 1963 was won by the legendary Lester Piggott in front of more than 20,000 spectators.

The Radcliffe Fillies – Sheila Jones, Paula Abernethy, Donna Cartwright and Caroline Malone – were the fifth women’s team and 20th overall in 38:56.

Run2thegin4thewin – Deborah Shaw, Debi Warrington, Tracy Wroe and Bev Quinton – clocked 49:10.

Kath Davies and Sheila McNulty took part in the Rossendale Round the Hills Walk with former member Alan Sumner.

They walked and ran the 18-mile course with 2,760 feet of ascent in 5:36:00.

Wroe and Quinton also celebrated with cake and Prosecco when they notched up their 50th parkruns.

They ran 35:48 at Heaton Park and where Radcliffe AC members were out in force to join in their celebrations.

Other results: Steve Hamer 25:25, Olivia Whittaker 26:54, Sheila Jones 33:04, Iain Harris 33:15, Deborah Warrington 33:26, Deborah Barrington 33:26, Christine Berry 37:05, Sarah Oxley 45:33.
