RADCLIFFE AC’s Donna Cartwright did not let the bad weather rain on her parade when she was third woman at the Worsley Woods Five Mile Trail Race.

She also clinched first Vet-40 in 34mins 51secs in the new race which had a strong contingent of 29 runners from the club.

They turned out in the rain – negotiating muddy sections and calf-deep puddles – for the eighth fixture of the Central Lancashire Grand Prix championship, a series of 10 races contested by local clubs.

Robert Short was first home for the club, finishing 10th and fourth senior in 31:45.

David McGrath finished 17th to clinch first male Vet-40 in 32:17, Chris Paxton was 19th in 32:42 and John Wrigley ran 33:11 to finish 23rd.

Debbie Cliff did not let a broken foot, snow and temperatures of -5°C stop her from completing the 5k Melissa’s Road Race in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada, in 36:37.

She said: “It was so cold I couldn’t even feel my broken foot!”

Andy Haines took to the hills in clear weather for the Thieveley Pike Fell Race near Burnley, completing the 4.3 miles with 1,310 feet of climbing in 44:08 to finish 31st.

Sarah Oxley clocked a personal best for the second week running when she ran the wet and windy Yorkshire Coast 10k in Scarborough in 56.39.

Paul Swyers led home a trio of Radcliffe runners at a wet Bolton parkrun, finishing 22nd in 23:28. Rob Lister was 24th in 23:53 and Lucy Dewhurst ran 48:08.

Junior Olivia Whittaker notched up yet another PB, knocking 57 seconds off her 5k time to clock 24:41 at Stretford parkrun.

Parkrun tourist Vince Ashton visited his 82nd location – and the country’s hardest – when he ran 33:19 at Woolacombe parkrun in North Devon, which included a stretch over the sand dunes.
