DESPITE a quiet weekend for the club, several Bury AC members were out racing.

Lucy Dent was the sole Bury representative at the South East Lancs Cross Country at Bogart Hole Clough and was only two seconds from victory with an excellent run in the under-11s' age group.

Ten members decided to test themselves over the weekly parkrun at Heaton Park and Bury won both the men's and ladies' races, with three ladies all in the top 10.

First home was Rachael Marshal in 20mins 19secs – only nine seconds outside her best time.

Hot on her heels, only nine seconds adrift in second, was Sarah Thomas and Lucy Hall recorded sixth in 22:07. Nichola Brown was 78th in 28:26.

Luke Harrod led the men's race from start to finish and clocked 16:45. Paul Johnson was next home in 10th (18:29) and Giles Bennet was 20th (19:05).

Other results: Daryl Harman 26:08 (242nd), James Wrigley 26:52 (276th), Steven Tobias 30:07 (421st).

This weekend sees the second Red Rose Cross Country event at Leverhulme Park, Bolton, when more than 75 Bury athletes are expected to compete – the ladies' team looking to build on their excellent team win in the first fixture.
