THOSE working to set up a Bury phoenix club have crunched the numbers ahead of a proposed re-birth in non-league next season – and are determined to do things properly.

As fans come together to rebuild the Shakers after their expulsion from the Football League, the club’s winding-up petition brought by HMRC back in the High Court on December 4, figures have been worked out that allow for the potential to play at both Gigg Lane or if a groundshare is needed.

A business plan is also close to being completed as the group continue to meet criteria ahead of applying to the North West Counties League by December 31, the process then moving on to the Football Association in the new year.

“Budgets have been finalised. These are currently just to show our statement of intent and we expect them to be refined and adapted as we move forward,” a statement said.

“We have been purposefully conservative to ensure we don’t raise expectations for what is possible.

“We are adapting the budget regarding playing at both Gigg Lane and elsewhere. No final decisions have been made but a budget needed to be completed.”

One of the next things on the agenda is finalising a name for the new club, something that will be put to a vote.

That needs to be ratified with the Manchester FA by December 6.

While pressing on with their plans for a new ‘Bury FC’ the phoenix group also continue to reiterate that they are working closely with existing supporters’ trust Forever Bury and are open to any viable option for the future of the Shakers.

“We continue to be supportive of Forever Bury and any credible bidder who demonstrates the best interest of fans being paramount,” they said.

“We stand ready to help in whichever way we can.

"We will and have spoken to a number of interested parties and we will continue to do so.”

Volunteer numbers supporting the group also continue to increase. Email social@buryphoenix.co.uk.
