BURY Hockey Club’s men’s first team were narrow 3-2 winners against University of Liverpool seconds.
In their penultimate North West Hockey League Division One North game before the Christmas break, Jack Marshall-Grint opened the scoring after he dribbled past several defenders to score.
The students hit back to level things before the break but the hosts were back in front 54 seconds after the interval with Marshall-Grint scoring a second.
Liverpool then equalised for a second time before Bury got their winner.
Marshall-Grint was involved again, this time from a penalty corner, Jonny Bray forcing the ball over the line for all three points.
A game at home to Ormskirk on Saturday completes Bury’s schedule before the break.
In Division Four North South, the table-topping second team were 1-0 winners at Didsbury.
Jack Dixon scored his third goal in four games as he slammed home a penalty corner into the bottom left.
The ladies’ first team were convincing 9-1 winners against local rivals Bolton in the All Divisions Cup, Abby Barber the star.
