CRICKETERS will be braving all weathers once again this year when an annual Boxing Day cricket match returns.

Held since 1963, Tottington St John’s CC and Brooksbottom CC will meet in a T20 fixture which gets under way at 11am at Crompton Meadows, off Beryl Avenue in Tottington.

Kieran Coe, secretary at Tottington St John’s Cricket Club said: “The unlikely sight of 22 cricketers on Boxing Day provides for an unusual yuletide sporting event.

“However, it has become ingrained in the fabric of both club’s communities.

“Supporters turn out in their 100s to enjoy the sporting rivalry – but also to possibly escape the confines of their Christmas home, get some fresh air and have a laugh with friends and family.

“We would like to thank all those hardy supporters that make the effort – and also our sponsors who agree to take an advert in the programme.”

There will be a full bar, mulled wine, pies and minced pies at the venue that hosts Tottington’s Big Day Out.
