BURY Hockey Club’s men’s first team enjoyed a 2-1 derby win over Rochdale.

Matthew Lee opened the scoring from a penalty before Rochdale equalised after a simple direct ball made it all the way through. Jonny Bray scored the winning goal in the second half after the goalkeeper was coaxed out, leaving the striker with an open net.

The men’s second team secured a 6-2 win over St Helens to keep their three point lead at the top of the table.

Luke Fidler scored twice with Danny Quinn, Samit Ghosh, Jon Kitchen and Ben Hope completing the scoring against a notably stronger St Helens side.

The ladies’ first team won 2-1 against Didsbury Greys with Beth Topping getting both goals. The seconds beat Manchester Uni 4-3: Lorna Wroe scored twice, after Tammy Gifford had given them the lead while captain Simone Rothwell got herself on the score sheet. The game also saw a welcome return from injury for Ange Shore.

And Chiara Murphy and Simone Rothwell both scored as the ladies’ thirds drew 2-2 with Glossop.
