PLENTY of Radcliffe runners made history when they took part in the first parkruns held on a leap year day – something which won’t happen again until 2048.

There was a good turnout at Heaton Park where Sarah Oxley celebrated her 100th parkrun with a time of 34:38 as part of a longer marathon training run.

Mark Garner ran 21:21; Mark Wolfenden 25:25; Olivia Whittaker was first JW10 in 25:52; Caroline Malone 29:32; Jenny Yates 29:33; Katie Davies 32:29; Deborah Barrington 32:30; Sarah Rushton 33:35; Lucy Dewhurst 33:36; Iain Harris 34:14 and Bev Quinton 34:20.

Parkrun tourist Vince Ashton checked into his 93rd location and fourth different country, running 27:19 at Kralingse Bos in Rotterdam, Holland, while James Higginson clocked 23:37 at Braunstone in Leicester.

Closer to home, Rob Lister ran 25:56 at Bolton parkrun, followed by David Schofield in 29:34 and Elaine Bailey in 32:37.

Nick Barnes and Helen Sandiford ran 24:36 and 31:27 respectively at Sale Water parkrun, and Craig Ward posted 25:24 at Worsley Woods.

Meanwhile a trio of Radcliffe runners took on the trails around Smithills in Bolton in the popular Trotters Five Mile Race.

Mark Williams was the club’s first finisher, coming 39th out of 241 runners in 36mins 41secs.

He was joined in the cold conditions by John McNicoll who was fourth Vet-55 in 39:30 while David Bartlett clocked 44:47.
