BURY AC ran out as convincing winners of round two of the Mob Match event – with Ben Coop recording the fastest time with a very nippy 15:45.

The club amassed a total of 7,292 points to overshadow the score of 4,652 from Stockport-based Davenport Runners.

With Bury fielding 29 of the 30 fastest finishers of the 5k time trials, it was always going to be tough for Davenport even though they fielded the majority of the 154 competitors. Bury next face Wilmslow Running Club in the finals that will be staged between July 18-26.

Also in the top 10 fastest Josh Birmingham (16.08); Byron Edwards (16.20); Andrew Mellor (16.25); Oliver Donnelly (16.26); George Booth (16.56); Jim Ardin (17.13); Luke Harreld (17.19); Jack Griffiths (17.20) and Chris Whittaker (17.58).

Hannah Price was fastest woman again with an impressive 17.59 with Nicola Ryan second fastest in a new personal best of 19.17. Young Freya Potts was third fastest woman overall and fastest junior female with 19.22. The fastest junior male was Sam Smyth with 18.18.

Bury also had the fastest runners in many of the age categories including Giles Bennett (MV50 20.01); Rachel Marshall (FV40 20.30); Chris Barrow (MV55 20.16); Katie Geelan (FV45 22.34); Roger Morley (MV65 22.55) and Mike Edwards (MV70 24.36).

A significant number of Bury athletes chose the flat loop of the old Salford Race Course to run their 5k time trials.
