The initial allocation of tickets for Bury AFC’s friendly at FC United of Manchester has sold out in under 24 hours.

The two fan-owned clubs announced on Wednesday they will meet in a pre-season friendly at Broadhurst Park on Saturday, July 3.

With 2,000 tickets made available they were however all gone by Thursday morning. Priority was initially given to members before 1,200 went on general sale at 7pm on Wednesday night.

It is now hoped more tickets will be made available as lockdown restrictions ease further.

FC United said: “We are hopeful that the current 50 per cent restriction currently in place will be lifted, but we will not know whether this is possible until mid-June, at which point we will make a further announcement so please keep an eye on both clubs social media.”

Both clubs dubbed the game ‘Football and Fans United’ with AFC saying in a statement: “This is a special moment for both clubs as we have developed especially close ties since the creation of our fan-owned club.

“Senior figures at FC United offered considerable assistance in following their lead in setting up a new club, as they did in 2005.

“It is sure to be a great occasion and a celebration of football club fan ownership.”

The game will see FC United’s record goalscorer Tom Greaves return to his former club having made an impressive start to his career with the phoenix club in the curtailed 2020/21 season.

"Returning to the ground that holds so many great memories for me, and to play in front of the FC United fans again is something I’m delighted to be able to do, though what I'm looking forward to most is meeting up with the many friends I made during my time there,” he said.
