IT was a return to racing and a return to winning for Radcliffe AC’s Jenny Yates.

She described the conditions as “character building” when she was first F55, and 11th woman overall, in 44:07 at Tatton10k.

It was Yates’s first race in 17 months, and she said: “Conditions were horrid – heavy relentless rain and strong winds – but it was great to be back racing again.”

Sarah Jackson also faced wet conditions at the 18K Kentmere Trail Challenge in the Lake District. She said it was a great event after finishing in 2:53:57.

Iain Harris, Mike Scott, Bev Quinton and Tracy Wroe completed the challenging Stairway to Heaven 5K at Tandle Hill County Park, Oldham. It is part of the Greater Manchester North SixPack Marathon Challenge, a series of virtual races on courses around North Manchester which total 26.2 miles.

Vince Ashton has been notching up the miles in his Kiss Goodbye to MS May 50k challenge in aid of MS research.

People have to complete the distance during May and Ashton, who has MS which causes him to have seizures, is making the challenge doubly hard: he has decided to push himself to the limit by running 50k and walking another 50k.
