Three members of Bury AC competed in the Run Aintree event around the racecourse.

In the 10k race Lawrence Fairclough took a superb fifth place in a new lifetime best of 33.02. Jack Griffiths also set a new best for the distance, crossing the line in 34.48 to take 14th position.

Making it three out of three, Ian Warrington set a new PB of 1:22.07 to take 30th place in the half marathon event.

Seven members competed at the Run Through Tatton Park 10k last Saturday.

Sam Smyth, 16, in his first race over the distance, ran brilliantly to take fourth place in 34.34.

Next was Sarah Thomas, taking an excellent second place in the women’s field, in a time of 39.18. Anthony Hallahan was Bury’s next finisher, crossing the line in 40.28 for 47th place.

Nicola Ryan was a little disappointed with her finishing time of 42.08, albeit it secured her fifth place and was a new PB. Just behind Nicola was Rachel Marshall, taking seventh position in 42.15 which gave her second in the FV40 category.

Brian Thomas ran well to finish second in the MV50 category with a time of 43.18, whilst Susan Wheeldon-Gorst went one place better, winning the FV50 category in 48.04, a massive new PB.

Six of Bury’s under-17 athletes travelled to Stretford to compete in the Trafford Senior open meeting. In the 100m races two of the athletes were rewarded with PB performances. Natan Witkowski won his heat in a new best 11.87, his first time under 12 seconds. Mae Gardner set a new best of 13.64 to take fourth in her heat, whilst Jay Cook and Rosella Togo ran 13.11 and 13.20 for fifth and third respectively in their heats.

Rosella also competed over 200m and 80m hurdles, setting new PBs in both events of 26.78 and 12.48 for third in both races. Natan and Jay both competed over the 100m hurdles with Natan winning his heat in 14.99 and Jay taking fourth in his heat in 15.59. Jay also competed in the discus where his best throw of 32.74 gave him 10th place.

Freya Potts had a strong run in the 1500m, taking second in her age category in a new lifetime best of 4.50.82.

In the field events there were new PBs for Mae Gardner and Ella Hall of 8.86 and 8.36 for first and third places respectively.

Ella also set a new best performance in the javelin with a furthest throw of 22.40 to take ninth place.
