Jenny Yates set a new 3,000m Northern Masters record in soaring temperatures in Yorkshire.

The mercury hit 27°C as the Radcliffe Athletic Club member clocked 11:58 on the track in the Masters Grand Prix at Sheffield Hallam City Athletics Stadium.

Masters Grand Prix are regular track and field meetings for veteran athletes from the UK and overseas.

Yates set a new FV55 record as well as a personal vet best.

Other members also contended with blistering conditions over the weekend.

Soaring temperatures didn’t stop Rob Shiels completing the Lancaster Marathon in 3:38:00.

Mike Cooke completed The Sunny Wood Project’s West Pennine Way 50-mile challenge, completing the route with 8,500ft of ascent over two days.

Elaine Bailey was fourth FV50 at the Chester 10k in 1:00:52 while Karen Doherty ran 1:10:17 at the hilly Royton Trail Race.

Away from racing, Neil Greenhalgh completed the 44-mile Rossendale Way self-supported in 9:30:15.
