RADCLIFFE Athletic Club’s Gary Adkins described completing the Athens Marathon as an “amazing experience”, writes Karen Doherty.

He finished the tough route in 3hrs 0mins 23secs, finishing a superb 162nd out of a field of 29,059.

Closer to home, six Radcliffe runners completed the Windmill Remembrance 10k.

Sheila Jones was first FV65 in 48:09, while Jen Entwistle ran 57:27, Stephen Crowe 59:25, Sarah Rushton 1:05:46, Natalie Hitchen 1:06:32 and Iain Harris 1:22:16.

Mark Wolfenden travelled to the Lake District for the classic Dunnerdale Fell Race. Returning from injury, he completed the five-mile course with 1,804 feet of climbing in 1:27:08.

Radcliffe was well represented at the third fixture of the Red Rose Cross Country League.

On a muddy and hilly course in Todmorden, Oliver Sawn ran 10:13 in the under-11 boys’ race.

Julie Robertson was first home for the club in the ladies’ race, finishing 40th out of a field of 108 in 22:55.

Kathryn Davies was fourth V55 in 25:07, while Karen Doherty ran 29:30, Elaine Bailey was fourth V60 in 30:06, Lucy Tetler ran 30:13 and Louise Shield finished in 31:36. The ladies’ team was 13th.

In the men’s race, Craig Norman was 59th out of 149 runners in 40:49. Also running were John Gibbs (43:19), Neil Greenhalgh (45:49) and Ian Swan (48:04).

Jenny Yates ran a parkrun personal-best time at Stretford where she was first F55 in 20:13. Sheila Jones was first F65 in 23:12 at Heaton Park parkrun and Jen Entwistle clocked 35:49.
