FIVE Bury AC athletes competed at the Manchester Indoor meeting at SportCity were all rewarded with new personal-best times.

Anna Gisbourne, competing for the first time in the under-17 age category, produced a scorching run in the 600m. She took the lead straight from the gun and opened up a commanding lead, crossing the line in 1min 36.67secs - a time that currently ranks her first in the UK for the distance.

She also competed over 300m, having to settle for second in 42.04.

Blessing Idoko, still in the u15 age group, won her 300m race in a new best of 44.83 and also took second in the 60m sprint, with a new best of 8.12 - a time that places her seventh in the UK and she is the fastest Bury athlete over the distance.

She then made it a trio of PB performances by taking fourth in the long jump with a best leap of 4.46.

Multi-event athlete Jemima Miles set a new best of 8.88 in the u15 60m to take thirrd in her race and then went on to take fourth in the 60m hurdles in a new PB of 10.36 before taking sixth in the shot with a putt of 7.63.

Running in the sixth heat of the senior men’s 60m Jamie Sanders set a new PB of 8.13 to take sixth.

Thirteen members of Bury AC competed in the Greater Manchester Cross Country Championships at Leigh where Hannah Lucas led the senior women’s team to a massive victory, taking second place.

Rachel Marshall was third and Nicola Ryan seventh. The first eight finishers are usually selected to represent Greater Manchester at the Inter Counties championships so there is the potential to have three Bury athletes in the squad.

The other Bury finishers in the race were Sarah Thomas (16th) and Afroditi Kalambouka (30th).

Caitlyn Johnston took seventh in the u20 women’s race, giving her a claim for county selection. Freya Potts may miss out with her 10th place in the u17 women’s race, while Emily Purdy took an excellent second in the u15 girls’ race with team-mate Chloe Ardin taking a superb fourth.

Jack Griffiths was first Bury athlete home in the senior men’s race, taking a solid 23rd place. Paul Johnston was 38th, Patrick Babb was 40th and Peter Barrow was 65th giving the Bury team 10th place.
