TWO Radcliffe Athletic Club members faced very different conditions when they ran half-marathons on different continents.
Gary Adkins ran a superb 1hr 23mins 9secs at the Ras Al Khaimah Half-Marathon in the United Arab Emirates.
Billed as the world’s fastest half-marathon, he finished 44th out of more than 20,000 runners – just missing out on a personal-best time in the heat which sapped his strength in the last 5k.
The event was a family affair, with his three children taking part in the one-mile run.
Closer to home, Mile Kontowtt contended with very windy conditions at the Blackpool Half-Marathon.
He was fifth V55 and 143rd overall in 1:50:20.
In the Saturday 5k parkruns, Mark Williams was 14th and first VM45 in 25:05 at Bolton parkrun.
Rob Shiels was 14th in 20:47 at Heaton parkrun, Sheila Jones was first VW65 in24:09, Elaine Bailey ran 31:22 and Jen Entwistle clocked 37:00. Cheryl Gallagher finished in 33:49 at Oldham parkrun.
