THERE were medals galore for Bury’s young athletes at Sunday’s Sportshall meeting at SportCity.

The under-11 girls dominated the competition with six individual medals and a gold in the relay.

In the javelin, there was a gold for Isabella Robinson and a silver for Lois Wormald, while Lucy Dent took bronzes in the speed bounce and long jump.

There were silvers for Lois in the three-lap race and Gabriella Idoko in the triple jump and otyher great performances from Sophia Reeves, Kathryn Wolstenholme and Ruby Dent.

The u11 boys’ team comprised of George Whalley, Zac Buckley, Josh Ardin, Daniel Taylor, Henry Cooper, Sammy Duerden and Oliver Hilton and they posted some excellent performances.

There were medals for some of the older athletes as well, including Ben Gardner, Jayden Barlow, Blessing Idoko and Jemima Miles in the u15 age group.

The u15 girls took second team place, while the u13s also saw fine displays from Robyn Wolstenholme, Kuddy Wright-Mudawakure and Oliver Cooper. Summer Barlow was also amongst the medal winners in that age group.

With National Cross-Country Championships being held in London, the Bury AC members who wished to test themselves in competition used parkruns as the vehicle to do this.

At Heaton Park, Conor Wilkinson was the first Bury athlete home, taking third in 17mins 42secs.

Rachel Marshall was once again the first woman finisher, crossing the line in 18:55.

Lewis Whittaker was 20th overall in 19:31 with Sarah Thomas second woman in 20:05.

Eleven-year-old Lucy Dent set a new personal-best time of 21:23 and was sixth female finisher and first in her age group. Brian Thomas stopped the watch at 22:07.

Slightly further afield, Giles Bennett took 12th place in Salford’s Peel Parkrun (19:30) and Lizzie Cheshire set a new PB of 21:14 in finishing 11th woman at Stretford.
