ELTON professional Asif Zakir starred with both bat and ball to help his side to a four-wicket win at home to Friarmere in The Greater Manchester Cricket League Championship division last weekend.

Zakir took 4-24, ably supported by Tahir Maqsood (4-31), as the visitors were all out for 178 before the pro top scored with 85 not out as Elton reached 182-6 to secure victory.

In the Premier Division, Siddhessh Lad scored 75no as Woodbank beat Edgworth by seven wickets.

Edgworth made 166 as Matt Wilkes (4-22) and Ryan Barker (3-36) shone with the ball.

In reply, Woodbank reached 169-3 thanks to Lad’s knock.

Prestwich faltered in chasing Denton West’s 214 as they fell to a 53-run defeat.

Ryan Stanbury took 3-37 for them in the first innings but they could only reach 161 in reply - James Wharmby top scoring with 30.

Walshaw also lost on the road at Moorside after making 105 in their innings, Callum Davis scoring 38.

Shahrukh Khan (2-36) and Shabnan Ali (2-45) picked up a couple of wickets each but Moorside reached 106-4 to seal a six-wicket triumph.

In Premier Two, Brooksbottom’s Jonathan Lees took 4-78 as Heywood made 190.

But a low top score of 17no from Dom Gowers summed up a lacklustre reply that totalled 101 as the visitors lost by 89 runs.

Bury also suffered defeat, by seven wickets, at home against Flixton.

Bury made 130 thanks to Mukhtar Nasir’s (55) half century but Flixton coasted to 131-3, Mohammed Zulfiqar taking 2-23 for Bury.

Stand enjoyed a better day as they beat Glodwick by 40 runs despite making just 107 in their innings.

Laurence Ollerton top scored with 40 for them but the bowlers stole the show to bowl Glodwick out for just 67.

Matthew Morgan had incredible figures of 5-4 off just 4.1 overs while Chris Williams weighed in with 4-27.

In Division One, Edenfield batsman Zane Gelsi (72no) and Paul Gallagher (62) starred as they reached 256-5 to seal a five-wicket win at Austerlands (255-4) after Michael Kelsey had taken 2-29 in the first innings.

East Lancs Paper Mill bowler Paul Hewart recorded remarkable figures of 3-5 from just four overs but still ended up on the losing side by four wickets in their Division Two A clash with Darcy Lever.

ELPM made 126 after both Naim Hussain and Ryan Wilkes top scored with 29.

But Darcy reached 130-6 despite Hewart’s heroics.

Another in-form bowler, Tottington St Johns’ Liam Hickson, claimed another ‘fifer’ in his side’s 161-run win against Radcliffe.

Totty totalled 253-8 as Mike B urns top scored with 78 and Radcliffe’s Usama Ahmed Siddiqui (3-59) and Ashu Ashraf (3-65) took three wickets apiece.

But Hickson’s 5-52 saw Radcliffe’s chase fall short as they closed on 92 with Jake Lockett top scoring on 26.
