BURY AC members enjoyed success as the club hosted the second fixture of the Cheshire Track and Field League.

They welcomed teams from Deeside, East Cheshire, St Helens Sutton and Vale Royal and the weather was conducive to some excellent performances.

It was a close run fixture with Bury’s men taking second behind Deeside by just three points, while the women’s team took third behind Deeside with only 19 points between the two teams.

However, Bury’s under-11s gave a great performance, winning their competition by eight points from the very strong Vale Royal team.

There were some excellent individual performances with wins for Martin Clark and Hannah Lucas in the seniors 3,000m (9mins 5.1secs and 10:24.9 respectively). Paul Johnston and Sarah Thomas both took third place in the 3,000m and Conor Wilkinson took second in the 1500m (4:29.7).

The club’s u17s are low on numbers but for the men Peter Gardener won the A 200 (25.1) and Jayden Barlow took second in the B long jump (4.27).

For the u15 girls, there were the usual superb performances from Blessing Idoko, who won the A 200m (26.2) and long jump (4.65).

She was joined by Evie Elliott, who secured a great win in the javelin (19.80) and the B 200 (27.9). Tia Buckley won the C 200 (30.0) and Lorena Hunter joined the three of them to deliver a commanding victory in the 4x100m relay (54.2). The u15 boys saw Ben Gardener win the high jump with 1.43.

The u13 girls saw victories for Isabella Robinson and Lucy Dent in the B and C 200s (31.5 and 31.9 respectively). Gabriella Idoko had to settle for second in the A 200 in a very fast 29.7, while Dent ran a brave race in the 1200m, taking the pace from the front but having to settle for second in a battle to the line (4:08.4). The girls also won the 4x100 relay. For the boys there were solid performances from Ben Clarke and Kian Bleakley.

Ethan Statham produced two great performances for the u11s team, winning the D 150 (25.1) and the A 600 (1:58.9). There were also victories in the javelin for Henry Cooper and Zac Buckley and a controlled win in the 4x100 relay (69.2). The girls won the 4x100 relay (69.5) and there were solid performances from Amber Hudson, Kathryn Wolstenholme, Isla Gribbin, Lacey Neil, Erin Hudson, Ruby Dent and Ella Strafon-Finch, who was celebrating her 10th birthday.

The club is hugely grateful to the volunteer officials without whom the event could not have been held.

Elsewhere, Declan Tattersall was Bury’s only competitor in the Edenfield Fell Race on Sunday. He ran well to take an excellent fifth place out a field of nearly 90 competitors.

Earlier in the week, Bury had competitors in the Trafford Grand Prix on Tuesday with Matthew Lowe not far off his best with 2:12.71 in the senior 800m.

Nicole South ran well to set a new best of 2:31.31 in her u15 800m and u17 Sam Smyth set a new lifetime best of 9:23.80 in the 3000m.

Last Thursday, a small group travelled to the Trafford Medal Meeting with three being rewarded with new personal bests; Henry Cooper in the u13 75m (12.46), Lucy Dent in the u13 800m (2:38.68) and Samuel Gooddy in the u15 hammer (27.57).
