Prestwich Heys were unable to back up their weekend victory at Squires Gate as they slipped to a 3-1 defeat to FC Isle of Man at Adie Moran Park on Tuesday night.
Looking back they will reflect on a couple of first half chances which they failed to take that would have given the game a completely different complexion.
In the fourth minute Dylan Fitzgerald fired over from close range and then in the 20th minute Erike Sousa saw a shot cleared off the line.
The visitors had their moments too with Heys keeper Louis Hood pulling off a sharp shot by Dean Pinnington in between those missed chances.
In a game played at lightning pace there was little to choose between the sides as they went in goalless at the break.
Heys made a strong start to the second half and they took the lead in the 50th minute. They worked the ball down the right through Mooney-Munoz and Fitzgerald, who combined to release Callum Graham on the right and when his cross fell to Fitzgerald, 15 yards out, he took a touch to fire low into the bottom corner.
Heys joy was short lived however as five minutes later the visitors levelled as from a corner the hosts struggled to clear with Hood pushing a header onto the bar before the ball was forced home from close range by Charlie Higgins.
The goal seemed to sap the energy from Heys play and they fell behind in the 68th minute when a cross from the left was stabbed home from close range by Adam Adebiyi.
Heys looked for a way back but their overall play lacked direction with a 20 yard shot from Shay Stansfield that cleared the bar in the 80th minute the closest they came to scoring.
Any hopes of a comeback were ended two minutes from time when Heys got in a real mess and ended up conceding a penalty from which Jack McVey secured the points for the visitors.
A disappointing outcome for Heys who never kicked on after taking the lead and lost their way once the visitors levelled. They showed plenty of endeavour but key moments at either end proved their undoing.
Heys travel to Padiham on Saturday (3pm) and remain on the road at Burscough next Tuesday (7.45pm)
