CHRISTIE Cook’s outstanding cross-country form continued last weekend when she romped to victory in the Under-15s girls’ race at the South East Lancashire League event at Boggart Hole Clough.

On a tough, muddy course, the Bury AC athlete dominated from the start, easing to victory by an enormous 38 seconds.

The win was Christie’s fourth victory in four races in the league. Jack Brown also produced an excellent run to finish in third place in the U15s boys’ race, an event won by the national champion.

In the same race Nathan Milligan ran strongly to finish seventh.

It was a busy day for the Milligan family – younger brother, Laurie, finished 15th in the U11s boys’ race, and dad, Andy, a very creditable 25th in the senior men’s race.

In this race, Andy was edged out by Ben Coop in 21st place. This was Ben’s first run of the season as he comes back from serious injury and it was a performance that gave the Bury athlete an excellent third place in the junior race.

The senior men’s team was rounded out by Dave Grundy in 59th, Dave Flood 75th and Nigel Brady 79th.

Six Bury AC athletes will be in action this weekend, representing Greater Manchester in the Inter Counties Championships at Cofton Park, Birmingham, an event that doubles as the World Cross-Country Championships selection trial.

Katie Buckley and Christie Cook, as the winner and runner-up of the Greater Manchester Championships in January, will lead a very strong Greater Manchester team in the U15s girls’ race.

Josh Cole will be a vital part of the county team in the senior men’s race, which will see him pitch himself against the very best in the country.

Three Bury athletes will also make their debuts in the Greater Manchester team, with Alison Walsh in the U20s womens race, Jack Brown in the U15s boys’ event and Antonia Kean part of the U13s girls’ team. Those keen to see Bury’s finest in action can see the event live on Sky Sports 3 on Saturday.
