IAIN Dowie is not in the running to be the new manager of Bury.

The former Oldham and Crystal Palace boss was odds on favourite to replace Alan Knill at Gigg Lane but The Bolton News understands that he is not interested in the post.

Bolton-based Dowie, whose last job was as caretaker at Hull City last season, is good friends with Shakers director Jeremy Rothwell. But after a brief discussion about the role, it is now thought that Bury have turned their attention to other candidates.

Former Manchester United full-back Gary Neville, former Stockport boss Jim Gannon and ex-Mansfield chief Keith Curle are the three leading names in the bookmakers' eyes, but Uwe Rosler – the former Manchester City striker – could be a surprise name in the frame, and will be watching this afternoon's game against Oxford United from the directors' box.
