Last weekend saw another series of exceptional performances from Bury’s athletes who are clearly relishing the opportunity to return to competition.

On Saturday, nine of the club’s younger members competed at the Trafford Junior Open Meeting. Anna Gisbourne showed once again why she is one of the best under 15s in the country.

Her time of 41.75 in the 300m ranks her second in the UK currently and she still holds on to her number one place nationally for the 800m.

Also for the under 15s, Blessing Idoko set a new PB of 13.46 to win the 100m and then went on to set new bests in the high jump (1.32) and long jump (4.28).

Chloe Ardin was just half a second outside her PB in the 1,500m, taking fourth in 5.02.93. Lola Potts took fourth place in the javelin with a best effort of 19.58.

For the boys Jayden Barlow set a new PB of 15.49 in the 100m and a new best of 31.9 in the 200m and then made it a trio of new bests by taking second in the long jump with 3.89.

For the under 13s Evie Elliott made it a sprint double winning both the 75m and 150m in new lifetime bests of 10.91 and 21.50 before setting a new PB of 12.55 to take second in the 75m hurdles.

Oliver Cooper set a season’s best of 11.75 to take third in his 75 m race and then won the long jump with a best leap of 3.73.

Lucy Dent was the fastest under 11 in the 600m, setting a new best of 2.00.37 and her commitment to training will soon see her duck under two minutes. Three of Bury’s senior men’s endurance squad made the journey to Mallory Park in the Midlands to compete in a 10k race around the race circuit.

Josh Birmingham ran a brilliant new PB of 31.12 to take 17th in the A race.

Byron Edwards, like a fine wine, is getting better and better with age. The men’s team captain ducked under 33 minutes for the first time, crossing the line in 32.52. This currently ranks Edwards as number one in the UK for the distance in the V45 age group. In the B race Luke Harreld took an excellent 11th place setting a season’s best of 34.18.

Ian McBride also made a trip to the Midlands to compete in the Leicestershire Half Marathon in Loughborough. He ran brilliantly to take second place in 1:10.22 a time that ranks him fourth in UK in the V35 age category.

Closer to home George Booth took an excellent second place in the Firefighters 2up duathlon around Rivington.
