CHRIS Eagles and Rob Lainton head a list of six Bury players to be released at the end of the campaign after the League One club announced their retained list for next season.

However, fans' favourite Ryan Lowe, whose current deal ends this summer, has been offered a new one-year contract.

The club have made their move following clamour from supporters for the 37-year-old striker to stay after Crewe manager Steve Davis this week said he had a "gentleman's agreement" he would be heading to Gresty Road.

While Lowe has a decision to make, former Wanderers players Eagles, 30, and Lainton, 26, will definitely be heading to pastures new.

Eagles has made just five appearances for Bury since signing as a free agent in October, while Lainton has played 38 times in three seasons since joining after his release from Wanderers.

Also leaving Bury are Danny Nardiello and defenders Reece Brown, Kiel O’Brien and Marcus Poscha, who are all out of contract this summer and have not been offered new deals.

Meanwhile, the club has activated a clause in the contract of utility man Craig Jones to extend his deal for another season, while they are in talks with Danny Pugh in a bid to keep the experienced midfielder for another year.

Second-year scholars Rob Bourne and George Miller have been offered their first professional contracts.

The remaining 17 players in the squad are already under contract for next season: Joe Riley, Chris Hussey, Andrew Tutte, Peter Clarke, Kelvin Etuhu, Hallam Hope, Jacob Mellis, Leon Clarke, Danny Mayor, Tom Pope, Tom Soares, Scott Burgess, Nathan Cameron, Anthony Dudley, Danny Rose and John Ruddy.

Loan players Ian Lawlor, John O’Sullivan, Cian Bolger, Chris Neal and Sean Clare will return to their parent clubs.
