WALSHAW Sports Club claimed a cup double this week after the junior and senior teams won trophies.

The first team held their nerve to win the last-ever Kenyon Cup final 4-3 on penalties after they had finished normal time locked at 3-3 with Westbury Sports Club.

It also looks as if there are plenty of good young footballers coming through the club after the under-14s side won a thrilling Lancashire Trophy final.

The Bolton and Bury District Junior League (BBDJFL) club beat Mellor Juniors 4-3 at the LFA County Ground in Leyland.

Manager Garry Johnston said: “This is the most prestigious trophy any junior football club can win in Lancashire and almost 100 Charter status Saturday and Sunday teams entered this year.

“The lads lost in the semi-final last season on a snow covered pitch in Barrow, so we were delighted they managed to bounce back to win it this year. It’s certainly a credit to the BBDJFL standard that one of their teams can go and beat teams from Blackpool, Wigan, Preston, Chorley and Warrington to become champions.”

Johnston also paid tribute to Holcombe Brook travel agents Departure Lounge, who sponsor the team kit every season.
