ELTON Vale hit bottom spot after defeat in the Manchester League First Division.

The rearguard activity supplemented by a couple of top drawer saves by Phil Kenyon kept the scores blank for 35 minutes.

Sav Lee turned to beat two Elton defenders in the corner and crossed for Taylor to score. Two minutes later Lee converted a Coulson cross. Another shot from the powerful forward bounced to safety off the woodwork.

The second half was a total turnaround as Vale fought for every ball and competed in every tackle. Without question Didsbury were rattled and when Standring and Jebb combined to give Stephen Ward a run on goal, his shot from the edge of the area flew in off the inside of the post to reduce the arrears.

John Chapman got his head to a corner kick that beat everyone but hit the Didsbury bar.

Time was running down as Dearden was pushed forward for a last-gasp corner. His header at the near post was goalbound only for keeper Simpson to pull off an instinctive reaction save. The defeat may have dropped Vale to the bottom of the league, but at least they go there with some heart and fight.

On Saturday Elton travel to Salford Victoria and the reserves host East Manchester. Both games kick off 2pm.
