JON Macken says his Radcliffe FC players must believe in their ability if they are going to climb clear of the bottom three in Evo-Stik North.

A 3-1 home defeat to high-flying Scarborough Athletic on Tuesday night was the Neuven Stadium men’s third straight loss and left them level on points with second-bottom Brighouse Town ahead of tonight’s visit of sixth-placed Trafford and Saturday’s trip to Tadcaster Albion.

“We’ve got to lift ourselves and push on,” said Macken.

“We’re disappointed but we’ll keep our heads high. We’ve got some good players and they’ve got to believe they can beat teams.

“It’s another tough game against Trafford but we’ve got to keep driving forward and believing in what we are trying to do.”

He will be hoping the addition of Manchester United and England legend Andy Cole at training last week can pay dividends for Boro’s forwards. Macken’s assistant Frank Sinclair organised the visit of the Premier League’s third highest-ever goalscorer.

“Frank contacted me a few weeks back and asked if I could come down and have a look at the lads,” said Cole, who won the treble with Manchester United in 1999. “They wanted me to get involved in the session, and I thought ‘why not?’.

Cole concentrated on the forwards, working on their movement, and hopes to do more coaching in the future.

He said: “Football is about knowledge and I?ve been fortunate enough to play at the highest level and learned off very good players.

“I want to do more coaching like this, it?s a great opportunity to stay in football.”
