RADCLIFFE Boro manager Andy Johnston has moved to cure his side's goalscoring ills by signing Chris Downey from UniBond Premier League rivals Mossley.

The highly-rated striker has scored 48 goals in 81 games - and has earned comparisons with Boro hero and prolific hitman Jody Banim.

"I'm delighted we have signed Chris," said Johnston. "He is very similar to Jody in the way he plays; he isn't very quick, but he has a great touch and knows where the back of the net is."

Boro currently find themselves bottom of the league after four games, following a disappointing week that saw them slump to two 1-0 defeats - against Hednesford and North Ferriby United. However, Johnston hopes his side can bounce back to form against Grantham at Stainton Park tomorrow.
