RAMSBOTTOM United boss Mark Fell has promised his side will go back to the training ground to right the wrongs of Saturday's 3-2 FA Cup defeat at home to Liversedge.

The Rams were leading the preliminary-round tie with two minutes to go before a Roy Foggarty double turned the match on its head.

Jerome Wright's 15th-minute opener had given Fell's men the perfect start, and while Devonte Morton equalised for the North East Premier Division visitors before half time, Lee Gaskell put Rammy back in control with a second goal shortly after the break.

Fell was scathing about the display as a whole, not just their late collapse.

"It was a totally unacceptable performance from start to finish," said the Rams boss.

"We have worked tirelessly pre-season on how we play, but when Liversedge sat off and gave us the ball for 80 per cent of the play in first half the lads saw it as a chance to retain possession without penetration – that's not us.

"Then instead of taking the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half, we looked like the Colwyn Bay game (in midweek) had taken all the legs out of us.

"Full credit to Liversedge they took the game to us in the second half.

"The goals we conceded were abysmal and I hope that gives us the shot in the arm required to prevent us being complacent in the future.

"Having said that, I pick the team that crosses the white line and I take full responsibility.

"We've two important sessions this week to prepare for a big game on Saturday."

A crowd of 202 was at the Harry Williams Riverside Stadium expecting more of the same after Rammy had started their league campaign unbeaten.

They looked to have continued their good form when a superb pass from George Pierce was converted by Wright on 15 minutes.

Debutant Tolani Omotola was unlucky not to double the lead on the half hour when he crashed a shot against the bar.

But a long ball seven minutes before the break caught out the Rammy defence and Morton skipped around goalkeeper Martin Fearon to roll the equaliser into the empty net.

The Rams put pressure on the Liversedge goal at the start of the second half and after a blistering Dean Stott shot was tipped over, Gaskell headed home the resulting corner.

Liversedge threw on Foggarty with 10 minutes remaining as they pressed for an equaliser and the substitution proved to be a masterstroke.

Foggarty worked himself some space on the edge of the box before firing the leveller past Fearon on 89 minutes, then repeated the trick in the 90th minute to send the Rams crashing out of the cup.

Fell will hope this week's planned hard work on the training ground will pay dividends when they return to Evo-Stik North action at Hyde United on Saturday before the Rams welcome local rivals Radcliffe Borough on Bank Holiday Monday.
