Friday 20th April saw our last meeting of the current season. We started with our AGM, when, miraculously, we managed, with a bit of arm twisting, to appoint a full complement of officers and committee members. Well done ladies!
Our delicious lunch was followed by an enlightening talk on “Quilting” by Elaine Hardy. She outlined the difference between English quilting, done by hand on hexagonal shapes, and American quilting, done by cutting many shapes at once and sewn by machine. She showed us an almost endless supply of beautifully worked quilts, throws and hangings, largely done by her. We were highly impressed at the originality of her vision within the constraints of traditional patterns. She told us that she would work quilts for special events on commission, and it certainly seemed a tempting idea to have one worked for instance as a wedding present or for a new grandchild. Our next season starts with a meeting on Friday 12 October, for details contact Ann Smith on 0161 766 3495.
