An investigation has begun to try and solve the mystery surrounding a very old photograph which was discovered under the floorboards in a house in Borehamwood.

The picture, which measures just two inches by two inches, was found in a very dirty condition at 7 Malden Road several years ago.

The photo intrigued the occupant of the house and she sent it to be copied, but it was lost, and only through luck has she got it back years later.

According to Elstree and Boreham Wood Museum, Christopher Chapman and his wife Jane Elizabeth were living at 7 Malden Road in 1918, and remained there until the mid-1930s.

During that time Walter and Elizabeth Chapman occupied 1 Malden Road, after their son, Frederick George, had been killed in the First World War.

Anyone who recognises the woman in the photograph, knows about these families or has a photograph of Frederick Chapman is asked to contact the newsdesk on 020 8953 3391.
