WIMBLEDON may be well under way, but the thought of wearing summery white garments gets my heart pounding faster than Murray can bounce a ball on the baseline.

Don’t get me wrong, I love a sleek all-white look as much as the next girl — and recent Givenchy, Chanel and Temperley London catwalks prove the designers are fans too.

But as an individual known for being debilitatingly clumsy, for me white is a downright dangerous choice.

With a flick of the wrist, I have in the past inflicted irreversible stainage on some of my favourite garments – a wrist attached to a hand carrying tomato soup or red wine, that is. The solution? River Island’s leather-look studded rucksack (£40).

Crisp white, but easily wiped clean, stain avoidance is the name of the backpack game here.

Moreover, its hands-free nature and multiple zippered compartments mean this beauty is perfect for squirreling away valuables — whether it’s a festival, city break or beach holiday you’re gracing with your presence.

Androgynous and understated, it also acts as a welcome contrast to girlier pieces — looking great with chintzy summer florals, gauzy dresses or seaside cover-ups.

And its sharp stud embellishment makes it a little fiercer than your average — not to mention acting as a deterrent to the sticky fingers of any pickpockets you might encounter on your travels.

Achingly cool, but with a level of practicality my mother would rejoice over. What’s not to love? But tourist or not, please don’t wear it on your front.
