FINDLAY Napier and The Bar Room Mountaineers will headline what could be the last ever Winelight Session at the Met.

Despite having played host to some of the country’s best up-and-coming talent, poor attendances mean the sessions are unlikely to last into the new year.

However, organisers are determined to go out on a high, and with the beer festival taking place upstairs at the Met there should be plenty of fun to be had this weekend.

Guitarist Jimmy Docherty will open the event. He was born in Edinburgh and raised near Glasgow, but his family are of Irish descent.

He started playing music aged six, and at 17 wrote a concept album based on Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World.

His latest album, Jimmy Docherty and the Velvet Tinkers, has a much more acoustic feel, however.

He will be joined by fellow Scot Findlay Napier, who is best known for his work with the folk group Back of the Moon.

With the Bar Room Mountaineers, he will be joined by fiddler Gillian Frame, who is BBC Radio Scotland Young Traditional Musician of the Year Award, percussionist Paul Jennings, formerly of the Old Blind Dogs and Croft No Five, and pianist Douglas Miller, who also plays in a duo with Glenfiddich Award winner Sarah Naylor.

The Winelight Sessions take place at The Met on Saturday. Tickets cost £6. To book, visit themet.biz or ring 0161 7612216.
