RAMSBOTTOM Tory Cllrs Bevan and Hodkinson are claiming some sort of success because, subsequent to the proposed sale of Ramsbottom Police Station by GMP, the nominal police base will now be sited at Ramsbottom Fire Station, a move which they say they initially proposed.

But scratch the surface and this “success” is somewhat hollow.
Due to swingeing budget cuts imposed by the Tory government, Ramsbottom police station has been closed to the public for some considerable time and the move of the existing nominal base to the fire station will not change that situation.

As a result of these Tory cuts, there is no functioning, manned police station in Ramsbottom where the public can seek help, advice or report crimes.

Between 2010 and 2015, Bury’s police manpower has been cut by 32 officers, 23 of whom are police constables.

David Nuttall, Bury North MP, supported these cuts.

If Cllrs Bevan and Hodkinson really wanted to support the citizens of Ramsbottom, they would have been lobbying Mr Nuttall and the Government to stop these cuts and the closure of the police station, which jeopardise the safety and security of Ramsbottom residents.
