Howzat for a Bonfire Night family fun debut!

ORGANISERS of a cricket club’s inaugural firework display were knocked for six when 2,500 revellers turned up.
Helpers from Woodbank Cricket Club decided to mark Bonfire Night with a family fun day — the first of its kind in the club’s history.
As well as the display, the November 4 event featured a bonfire, fairground rides, stalls, games and traditional treats for spectators.
Club chairman Peter Hamer said: “This was a real step in the dark for us as a club, as we have never taken on a venture like this, but it is definitely one we want to repeat.
“The response has been terrific, but it could not have happened without the hard work and dedication of the committee and volunteers from the club, and partners such as St John Ambulance.”
He added: “We also owe thanks to the Church and Elton Ward councillors who gave us a grant to kickstart this event.
“Not only was it a fantastic night enjoyed by so many, but it has also put the club on the map locally.
