Forever Bury are calling on supporters to attend its ninth annual beer festival to help the club in their time of financial difficulty.

The festival will run from next Thursday, May 16, to May 18 at the Bury FC social club in Gigg Lane, and will feature 54 real ales from around the country on sale at £2 a pint.

Bury’s financial situation is still unclear after the board of directors last week said they were in “complicated negotiations” with investors, to avoid going into administration.

The events run daily from 11.30am until 11.15pm, and the supporters club are also hoping to raise money for Bury Cancer Support Centre.

More than £89,000 has been raised over the eight previous festivals which has gone towards helping the club rebuild.

Chairman Dave Giffard, who has volunteered full time Forever Bury for 11 years, is hoping for around 250 people to attend each day and enjoy the offerings as well as helping the club financially.

The group was launched in July, 2002, and over the first 10 years of their existence raised in excess of £150,000 to help cover the cost of projects at the ground.

In recognition of this contribution, Forever Bury has an elected representative on the club’s board of directors and is a major shareholder.

There are other opportunities to get involved in fundraising, with a family fun day in June, and car boot sales running from April to October on the Gigg Lane car park.

Volunteers are required to help set up the beer festival, and there are still opportunities to sponsor a beer at the event.
