A DARING group of dentists has “scaled” the highest mountain in the British Isles to raise more than £3,000 to help some of the world’s poorest people.
The team took about six hours to climb 4,409-foot Ben Nevis in Scotland’s Grampian Mountains.
They were being sponsored to help boost funds for the Bridge2Aid charity which has been working in Tanzania for the past 10 years to make dental services accessible to poor people in remote areas.
The idea for the climb came from Dr Zuber Bagasi (pictured fourth from left), aged 31, the founder of Synergy dental practices in Tenterden Street, Bury, and Blackburn Road in Bolton.
The group also included Dr Ramki Ginagunta, aged 33, who is head dentist at the Bury practice, Dr Imran Chaddat, a 25-year-old associate dentist at the Bury practice, and 27-year-old Dr Ai Ling Lim, who is head dentist at the Bolton clinic. None of the dentists had ever climbed before but worked with Bolton sports therapist Arshad Hafezi and were accompanied on the climb by an experienced mountaineer.
The plucky group had to brave gradually worsening weather to reach the summit.
Dr Bagasi said: “As the conditions got below freezing point towards the top, the challenge became even more difficult. We worked extremely well as a team, though.”
