TOTTINGTON Post Office could be on the move — to a new location further along the same road.

The proposals involve transferring the post office from its existing base at 62, Market Street, to Cobwebs & The Knitting Basket, which is also in Market Street.

As part of its modernisation plans and extension of opening hours, the proposed new branch will operate from a Post Office serving point at the retail counter.

Opening hours at the new location would be Monday to Wednesday and Friday to Saturday, from 9am to 5.30pm, and Thursday from 9am to 8pm, offering customers 53.5 hours a week to access Post Office products and services. This will be an increase of 16 hours per week.

The proposed move is part of major modern-isation programme across the Post Office network designed to make it easier for customers to do business.

Post Office regional network manager, Adrian Wales, said: “We understand how important having a Post Office is to residents in the area and we are confident that this new modern branch will meet the needs of the local community and secure services for the future.

“The modern-isation is part of a major investment programme to convert the Post Office network to new-style branches and this investment, the largest in the history of the Post Office, makes a commitment to no more branch closure programmes.”

The Post Office, now independent of Royal Mail, is the largest retail network in the UK with more than 11,700 branches.

During the public consultation, which closes on December 13, Post Office Ltd is encouraging feedback on any issues customers would like considered before a final decision is taken on the proposal.
