GREEN-fingered politicians joined volunteer rangers to help maintain a Tottington park.

Conservative councillors Iain Gartside, Yvonne Wright, Sue Nuttall and James Daly, together with Bury North MP David Nuttall, took to Old Kays Park on Saturday with the Bury Volunteer Ranger Service (BVRS).

They helped to fell dead trees to encourage more growth and allow animals to create habitats.

The BVRS was established in 2011 and has 40 volunteers.

Cllr Gartside said: “Since the new year, we have become involved with the BRVS, helping out with practical tasks in the great outdoors.

“It’s a very worthwhile way for any fit resident to get out in this free ‘green gym’ and help improve our wooded areas.”

The BRVS are appealing for more people to volunteer. For more information call Carragh Teague on 0161 253 6923.
