BURY Lions have launched a sponsorship appeal for the town’s carnival to be held in the summer.

The annual event, organised by the club, will take place on Sunday, June 8, and feature a floats parade and gala.

Appealing for support, carnival chairman Mr Scott Richardson said club members were not paid for organising the event.

He said: “We are in desperate need of sponsorship which will allow us to put on this great public event in Bury.

"Money raised goes to local charities and the needy, and without the sponsorship we cannot put on this long-running, popular event.”

Mr Richardson said Bury Lions have various sponsorship packages on offer, including the names of participants being featured on street banners and letter-heads. Stalls at the gala can be sponsored or support given to the floats procession.

Mr Richardson added: “We cannot put on the parade unless local businesses, schools and other Bury charities enter. It’s a time to promote what you do and all schools are free to enter.

“We are also looking for volunteers to help on the parade. We need people to hold our banner that goes at the front and help with our collection buckets along the way.”

The gala will be held from 10am to 4.30pm. There will also be a funfair at the Foundry Street car park.
